Save the Date: March 22 Open House

Posted on March 1, 2017 at 4:12 PM by Julie Sutor

Greetings, Summit Cove residents.

We hope you’re having a great winter and enjoying all the snow we’ve been getting this year.

Here at Summit County government, we’re busy planning for summer projects, with the Summit Cove Loop high on our list. Last year, we completed significant and much-needed repair work on some side roads in the Cove. This year, we’re headed back to the loop itself, with a focus on the school zone around Summit Cove Elementary, where we have some really exciting improvements planned.

We’re grateful to CDOT for granting us $350,000 in Safe Routes to School funding to support this year’s portion of the Summit Cove Loop Project.

2017 Work Plan Summary

Work this summer will take place along Cove Boulevard, from Whispering Pines Ranch Road to Grey Fox Lane. The project improvements include striping 10-foot-wide drive lanes, constructing bicycle/pedestrian lanes on both sides of Cove Boulevard, installing a sidewalk along the east side of Cove Boulevard (along school property), and adding a new student drop-off/pick-up zone that will improve vehicle traffic flow and eliminate the need for children to enter traffic in the parking lot.

We anticipate that construction will take place from June through August. Our hope is to complete all improvements during summer break, while school is not in session.

Project Goals
As with other sections of the Summit Cove Loop, we’ve designed the school-zone improvements to support the following goals:
  • Reduce vehicle speeds
  • Reduce conflicts among the various modes of travel (motor vehicle, bike/pedestrian)
  • Provide clearly defined, safe and accessible routes for biking and walking.

Community Open House: March 22
We will hold a community open house from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, at Summit Cove Elementary. Join us to get details on the project design, ask questions and meet Road & Bridge and Planning Department staff leading the project. Mark your calendars! We’ll provide some light snacks.
